Editorial Policy

Last updated: July 12, 2026

This Editorial Policy describes how 7bc.site researches, writes, fact-checks, and maintains every calculator, article, and FAQ on the site. We publish this policy because transparency about our methods builds trust — and because users of financial calculators deserve to know exactly how the numbers they're relying on are produced. If you have questions about our process, contact us anytime.

Our editorial principles

Five principles guide every piece of content on 7bc.site. Accuracy: formulas are verified against authoritative sources and tested with worked examples. Transparency: we show our formulas, cite our sources, and explain our methodology. Independence: we accept no payment for coverage, rankings, or recommendations. Clarity: every concept is explained in plain English with real-world examples. Maintenance: content is reviewed and updated when rules change, not just when first published.

Sourcing and verification

Every calculator on 7bc.site is built from authoritative sources. For tax calculations, we use IRS publications, forms, and instructions. For accounting metrics, we use FASB guidance and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). For investment calculations, we use standard finance textbook formulas (Brealey & Myers, CFA Institute curriculum). For generators, we use official platform documentation and industry best practices. Sources are cited in the methodology section of each tool page.

When sources disagree or when practice varies by jurisdiction, we note the most common standard and link to alternatives. We never invent formulas or take shortcuts with the math — if we're unsure, we say so explicitly and recommend consulting a professional.

The build process

Each calculator goes through a five-step build process. Step 1: Source the formula. We identify the standard formula from authoritative sources and cite them. Step 2: Implement and test. We build the calculator and test it against worked examples we can replicate by hand. Step 3: Write the explanation. We draft a plain-English article covering what the metric means, how to interpret results, common pitfalls, and a worked example. Step 4: Editorial review. A second team member reviews the formula, tests, and explanation for accuracy and clarity. Step 5: Publish with metadata. We add a "Last updated" date, reviewer credit, and related tools.

AI assistance disclosure

We use AI tools to assist with first drafts of explanatory content, code implementation, and editorial review — much like a researcher uses a calculator or a writer uses spell-check. Every piece of AI-assisted content is then reviewed, fact-checked, edited, and finalized by a human team member with relevant domain knowledge. We do not publish AI-generated content without human review. We do not use AI to mass-produce content. Our AI usage is for efficiency, not replacement of editorial judgment.

Maintenance and updates

Tax rules change annually. Accounting standards evolve. Platform policies update. We monitor these changes and update affected calculators promptly. Each tool page displays a "Last updated" date so you know how current the formula is. Major changes (new tax brackets, revised contribution limits, new regulations) trigger a full review of related calculators. Minor clarifications and copyedits happen continuously without changing the "Last updated" date.

If you spot an error or an outdated formula, contact us at contact@7bc.site with "CORRECTION" in the subject line. We investigate every report within 5 business days and publish corrections with attribution if you'd like credit.

Conflict of interest

7bc.site accepts no payment from any company for coverage, rankings, recommendations, or tool placement. We have no affiliate relationships with financial products, accounting software, or service providers. Our only revenue source is contextual advertising (currently Google AdSense). Advertisers have no influence over editorial content — our content team does not see which ads will run on which pages, and advertisers cannot pay for positive coverage. If this ever changes, we'll update this policy prominently.

User feedback and corrections

We actively seek user feedback. If a calculator doesn't handle a case you need, if an explanation is unclear, or if you've found an error — tell us. We credit users who report significant corrections (with their permission) and prioritize tool improvements based on user demand. The best calculators on this site exist because users asked for them.
